Problem
Schools and colleges implementing the Whole School and College Approach to mental health had no consistent way to measure their progress. Researchers at the NIHR ARC Kent Surrey Sussex needed a digital platform that would allow educational settings to self-assess across multiple criteria, track their scores over time, and produce shareable reports for governors and stakeholders.
Approach
I built the WSCA Measurement Toolkit as a multi-panel Laravel application using Filament. Schools log in to a dedicated portal where they complete two structured self-assessment forms covering 17 and 12 criteria respectively. Scores are weighted by strength of evidence and visualised as time-series charts. An admin panel allows researchers to manage schools, review submissions, and export data. The platform supports multiple schools per account and generates printable PDF reports.
Outcome
The toolkit is in active use with schools across the UK as part of an NIHR-funded research programme. It provides researchers with a consistent dataset for studying the efficacy of whole-school mental health approaches, and gives schools a structured way to reflect on and communicate their progress.
